Thursday photo workshop, part 13

Usually, I'm taking pictures while cooking (which means a lot of stress). When I had the idea to take a food photo for the new summer-join-in emagazine, I decided to do it the way professionals style their food. I wanted to have a yummy summer salad with some turquoise and complementary colors for some extra freshness.
_____

I chose a soft turquoise fabric, a bright turqouise plate and glass. Since I don't like food on blue plates (it looks a bit weird and not delicious), I used a white plate on top._____ Ich habe einen leicht türkisfarbenen Stoff verwendert und ein leuchtendes Türkis für den Teller und das Glas.

I put freshly washed salad onto the plate - you can see the water drops. I should have used a towel, but it was a warm day, so the drops dried until the photos were taken.
For the salad, I chose small and delicate spinach, red Swiss chard leaves and rocket salad. All of them are a bit bitter which I wanted as a contrast to the sweet cherries. Another green ingredient were snow peas, cooked 'al dente'. The dark red cherries and the red of the Swiss chard leaves add a nice complementary contrast to all the green.

I had grown Tropaeolum flowers from last year's seeds. I love to eat flowers, and the bright yellow is the complementary color to turquoise, which makes both colors glow.

I added some cashew nuts for some additional sweetness ...  Für etwas zusätzliche Süße noch einige Cashewkerne ....

... and of course the cherry halves. ____ ... und natürlich die Kirschhälften.

In the end I tought that the turqouise glass might be a distraction and choose a colorless one which brought some extra light reflexes.

Then I took the first pictures - just in case - since the rest of the ingredients would be tricky.

Feta cheese is a bit smeary (in case this is the right word), and I didn't want to spoil the look of the salad leaves.

The most tricky part is the salad sauce, because the moment you sprinkle it onto the salad, a race against the time begins. The acid of the vinegar makes the leaves wilt, and you'll have only minutes left for your picture!
PS: The salad was indeed a color improvisation, but utmost delicious!
____

Thank you so much for taking us through your steps! I so agree about the glass and going with the one you chose at the end. And yes, smeary is a word!
