Thursday photo workshop, part 15: Non-sewing DIY camera strap

I love my DSLR, but I learned to detest my camera strap. It's made from plastics and sweaty in the heat, and I neither want to be an advertising medium for a camera producer nor to be part of the competition between Canon and Nikon. So I decided Du make a camera strap DIY.

Ich liebe meine Spiegelreflexkamera, aber ich habe begonnen, meinen Kameragurt zu verabscheuen. Er ist aus Kunststoff und schwitzig, und ich will auch weder ein Werbeträger für einen Kamerahersteller sein noch Teil des Wettbewerbs zwischen Canon und Nikon. Deshalb habe ich beschlossen, ein Do-it-yourself Kameraband (ohne Nähen!) zu machen.

You'll need strong leather as long as your existing camera strap, double-sided sticky tape and strong duct tape, best in the color of your leather (which hasn't to be black, btw).

~ Ihr braucht festes Leder, so lang wie Euer aktuelles Kameraband, Doppelklebeband und Textiklebeband, möglichst in der Lederfarbe (die natürlich nicht schwarz sein muss).

Cut both ends out and fix it (I used spray mount) on the backside of your leather. ~ Schneidet beide Enden aus aus und fixiert sie (ich habe Sprühkleber verwendet) auf der Rückseite Eures Leders.

Cut along the pattern. Test the length you need around your neck. ~ An der Vorlage entlang ausschneiden. Testet die Länge, die Ihr braucht, an Eurem Hals.

Put (one-side) duct tape as reinforcement up to the marked line onto the backside of your leather, turn around and cut off all excessive tape material. ~ Das Textilklebeband als Verstärkung bis zur markierten Linie auf die Rückseite des Leders kleben, umdrehen und alles überschüssige Klebeband abschneiden.

Glue the double-sided tape with 2 cm distance onto the backside. Use a weight to fix the ruler. ~ Doppelseitiges Klebeband mit 2 cm Abstand auf die Rückseite kleben. Das Lineal mit einem Gewicht fixieren.

Cut off the excessive tape (up to 3,8 cm) and glue both parts of the leather flat onto the tape. Make sure that the borders will meet. ~ Schneidet das überschüssige Klebeband (ab 3,8 cm) ab und klebt beide Lederteile so auf das Klebeband, dass sich die Ränder berühren.

Use a waterproof marker to paint over the white borders of the tape. ~ Die weißen Ränder des Textilklebebandes mit einem wasserfesten Marker übermalen. 

Wind the band two times around and make sure that it's fixed. That's it! ~ Das Band zweimal herumwickeln und sicherstellen, dass es fest sitzt. Das wars schon!

I'm just back from my holidays, but with the new camera strap I'm ready for the next trip! ~ Auch wenn ich gerade erst aus den Ferien zurück bin, mit dem neuen Kameraband bin ich schon wieder bereit für die nächste Reise!
