Thursday photo workshop, part 20: Using a tablet

I'm not that much into technics, but I wanted to show you how you can use a tablet (or a computer) for photos. In any case where you're using a tripod and/ or you have bad light, a larger display can be very useful! And this is what it's about. You'll see your photo on the monitor/ display, you can arrange the props much more easily and test different light situations.

Ich stehe nicht sehr auf Technik, aber ich wollte Euch zeigen, wie man ein Tablet (oder einen Computer) für Fotos einsetzen kann. Immer dann, wenn Ihr ein Stativ benutzt und/ oder schlechtes Licht habt, kann ein größeres Display sehr nützlich sein. Und genau darum geht es. Ihr seht Euer Foto auf dem Monitor/ Display, könnt die Requisiten viel leichter arrangieren und verschiedene Lichtsituationen ausprobieren.

 Most of the DSLRs come with a software that allows the same, for my tablet (Google Nexus 7, about 200 Euros) I looked for an app. 'DSLR Controller' for about 7 Euros was the one I liked most. You'll need two adapter cables as shown, start your camera and that's all you'll have to do. You can control now all camera settings via the tablet.

Die meisten Spiegelreflexkameras werden mit einer Software geliefert, die dasselbe macht. Für mein Tablet (Google Necus 7 für ca. 200 Euro) habe ich nach einer App gesucht. Ich mochte 'DSLR Controller' für ca. 7 Euro am liebsten. Dann braucht Ihr noch zwei Adapterkabel (s. o.), schaltet Eure Kamera an und das wars auch schon. Jetzt könnt Ihr alle Kameraeinstellungen über Euer Tablet steuern.

Don't be afraid of using Aperture and Shutter speed in manual mode, too - in fact, this way you can easily play with it and learn a lot. The picture is too dark? No problem, just press one of the other buttons, until you'll have the aperture/ speed combination that makes you happy.

Traut Euch auch, den Manuellen Modus auszuprobieren und Blende und Belichtungszeit von Hand einzustellen - tatsächlich ist das eine wunderbare Möglichkeit, damit herumzuspielen und eine Menge zu lernen. Das Foto ist noch zu dunkel? Kein Problem, drückt einfach auf einen der anderen Buttons, bis Ihr die Einstellungen habt, die Euch glücklich machen.

Und so war der Aufbau - die süßen Eisbär-Salz- und Pfefferstreuer, die mir mein Sohn aus Japan mitgebracht hat, und selbstgemachte Mangoeiscreme.
