Transfer DIY 1

Robin asked for a DIY tutorial for my pattern handkerchief from Wednesday - here it is. Basically, I'm using two transfer techniques, this is the first one. For all kinds of fabric, I'm choosing iron-on foil which is available both for laser and inkjet printers. You just have to mirror your pictures, print them in the desired size, cut out the motif and then iron-on. There are two things you should notice: no steam, and use a wooden (hard) underlay. Usually it's about 30 seconds, take care that you neither burn the fabric nor the foil backside. Then peel the backside carefully and slowly as long as it's warm. In case the foil doesn't stick perfectly to the fabric, just use your iron again.

As for the color: aquarelle colors will leak out, which can be a nice effect, but for my triangles, I used tempera colours with as little water as possible. Choose your colour palette and start with the lines: first horizontally, then the diagonals. Fill the triangles, start with the edges, and I took care to choose bright colours around the face. It was really a fun project, thanks to the Pattern Wednesday!
