Thursday photo workshop, part 4: DIY background & reflector

Especially when it's about food, I love to use props and a lot of things to tell a story with my picture. But sometimes you just want to show a beautiful object without any distractions, that's f. e. the concept behind my Sunday tryptichons. There are professional lightboxes for that, but what I do is more than simple.
_____

I simply stick a big and thick white paper with some duct tape onto the wall. The only other thing you'll need is good light. I used the same approach as in my second Thursday photo workshop: light from the left, bouncing back with a reflector on the right side.
_____

Especially with white-in-white pictures this is a very easy and effectful way to take your pictures. This is one of my paper objects, and it looks much more lightwight without seeing any background.
_____

The reflector is a DIY one, again. I just used a pice of Styrofoam and two cheap clamps from the DIY store. I'm looking for more beautiful ones, but they do their job. They come in different sizes, so you can use much larger pieces of styrofoam, too.
_____

Next week I'll show you how I overexpose when there isn't enough light despite of reflectors.
